The EU Ecolabel - Environmentally friendly product
The EU Ecolabel (European Ecolabel) was founded in 1992 to encourage producers and retailers to offer products and services that are environmentally friendly.
Thanks to the EU Ecolabel with flower logo any consumer can simply recognize environmentally friendly products and services.
Trademark can be granted to any manufacturer, importer, retailer or service provider who meets the required criteria and whose product is available on EU markets.
The EU Ecolabel covers a wide range of products and services (and constantly increasing its portfolio). Among certified products there are i.e. soaps and shampoos, washing and cleaning products, home appliances, computers, paper and textile products, home and garden utilities, shoes, paints and varnishes, but also services such as tourist accommodation.
The Ecolabel standard criteria are not based on few factors, but on studies that analyse the impact of a product or service on the environment throughout its entire life cycle; from extracting raw materials, production and distribution to product’s disposal.
The Ecolabel provides manufacturers, traders and service providers with recognition for the high standard of their products and services and enables consumers to choose responsibly.
All products with this logo are controlled by independent authorities and are guaranteed to comply with strict ecological criteria.
Eco-mark Nordic Ecolabel (or Swan Ecolabel) is a common ecolabel for the Nordic countries in Europe such as Norway, Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Iceland.
The aim of the Nordic Ecolabel (and all labelling’s) is a sustainable society through sustainable consumption. In order to achieve this goal, it is important that consumers chose eco-labelled products.
Swan is the official Nordic Eco-label introduced by the Nordic Council of Ministers. Its aim is to provide information to consumers, allowing them to choose products that are least harmful to the environment. It is focused on the kinds of products that are important to consumers.
The criteria are based on the evaluation of environmental impact throughout the product life cycle. There are specific requirements aimed at reducing factors that are considered harmful to the environment. The criteria are updated every three years to reflect new knowledge and production methods.
